WatchESPN is an online channel webcasting everything shown on ESPN – football, basketball, every Grand Slam tennis tournament, most of the major golf championships, and English Premier League and Spanish Primera Division soccer games. WatchESPN is also a clearinghouse for an assortment of niche sports such as darts, cricket, and the World Series of Poker.

The WatchESPN web site and WatchESPN mobile app are both great ways for sports fans to watch live sports, even when away from a TV. WatchESPN does require verification that you have a cable subscription, but gives online viewers complete access to everything broadcast on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, and the college sports channel ESPNU. If you don't have a cable subscription, you can still watch sports online, free through ESPN3, a more limited online channel providing live streams of select college football games, college basketball, tennis, golf, and the ongoing World Cup qualifying matches. Anyone can watch ESPN3, as long as their Internet service provider is on the list of ESPN3 carriers.

WATCH MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL AND COLLEGE FOOTBALL ON WatchESPN

ESPN is the home of Monday Night Football, and WatchESPN is the home of the Monday Night football webcast. Every Monday night at 8:30 p.m. EST for the remainder of the NFL season, you can watch Monday Night Football live online at WatchESPN.com. Monday Night Football games are only available live on WatchESPN, and are not available on demand afterwards. You can also catch webcasts of football highlight shows like 'NFL Live' and 'SportsCenter' on WatchESPN, though these shows are also only available live, not on demand.

On Thursday nights and Saturdays, WatchESPN has NCAA football webcasts allowing you to watch college football online. You can start your Saturday football early with a live webcast of the popular 'College GameDay' pre-game show, then choose from more than two dozen games over the course of the day and evening. College football game replays remain available on WatchESPN for a week following the game's conclusion.

WATCH SPORTS ONLINE WHILE ON THE GO

While the WatchESPN.com web site will stream live games to your computer, the WatchESPN app for Android and WatchESPN app for iOS will stream 24/7 ESPN webcasts to your mobile device. Both apps are free to download, but both will require cable subscription verification before allowing you to watch ESPN on your mobile device. Cable TV non-subscribers, though, will be interested in this loophole — the WatchESPN app gives you a free four-hour grace period without requiring cable verification. So you can still watch sports online, free if you're not a cable TV subscriber, choose those four hours wisely – you can only exploit this loophole once.

WatchESPN provides a live webcast of nearly every sporting event shown on any ESPN channel, with one significant exception. The WatchESPN Monday Night Football webcast will only be available on an Android tablet or iPad – not on a smartphone, unless you're a Verizon Wireless customer.

WATCH BASKETBALL ON WATCH ESPN

Basketball is about to rebound with the 2012-13 NBA season beginning in late October, and you can watch NBA games online on WatchESPN. ESPN does not carry all NBA games, but WatchESPN will deliver many NBA double-headers played throughout the coming season on Wednesday and Friday. These are marquee NBA games featuring top teams and players. If the past couple of years are any indication, full replays of NBA regular season games will be available on WatchESPN for 24 hours after the conclusion of the game.

While March Madness may still be far away, the college basketball season will tip off in mid-November. WatchESPN will webcast a generous schedule of college basketball games, beginning with the marathon 24 hours of consecutive live games starting at midnight on November 13, 2012. Replays of college basketball games will remain available on WatchESPN after the games have finished.

Do you encounter any unnecessary roughness when logging in to WatchESPN? Have you tried to watch live sports online using a mobile device? Is it too early to start thinking about March Madness? Let's hear your scores and highlights (or lowlights) on the WatchESPN app in the comments section below.
